A Star and a Baby. Flames and the King.

Writer: Olivia GraceOlivia Grace

What extraordinary beauty creation presents as its very existence displays the love of its Creator.

A late night drive on the interstate, busy with passing cars and the congested flow of life’s transportation needs, I am able to experience stillness. It is not the kind of stillness one might feel when looking around the calm setting of a home cleaned and prepared for hosting guests. Rather the kind one might feel when they look up.

I directed my gaze to the single star in the night sky. It twinkled with delight and gently sparkled as my eyes met her. It was delicate to behold. She shown alone, but her humble gleaming still managed to grasp my attention. As I was admiring the simple star, I realized this star is not as simple as it presents itself from earth’s perspective. She gently let her presence known. She smiled down at earth, thinking how her light gave life to the night, and that was enough. The star knew who she was. But we can easily miss who she is. As I considered her twinkling, I understood that, in reality, she was not twinkling.

She was burning.

She was full of power.

Alive and luscious. Alive and dangerous.

The speck of glitter I saw in the night was a flaming ball of boiling gas. Her size, a million times bigger than earth, was cloaked by lightyears of distance. Wanting to present herself to earth, she must stay far, far, far away. To bring beauty and keep us safe, her glory must be concealed. Only in the highest heavens would one be able to grasp her true splendor.

This reminds me of another story. A true story of a King. One who, like the star, was abounding in fierce and beautiful flames of holiness. Splendor so immense it surrounds His presence. One who, like the star, resides in the heavens. A place so real, yet so invisible, so easily missed. One who, like the star, shows His light from the heavens. One who, like the star, shared His glory through humility. This King came to earth as gently as the sparkle of the star. The star simple glimmer lit His entrance. Underneath the quiet ray of starlight, a King was born. Out of the nakedness of the night, love breathed in human form for the first time. All was still. All was quiet. In its purest form, innocence displayed itself through the gift of a baby.

What could resemble the soft light of a star more than a newborn? Come from Heaven, this baby, delicate and peaceful, holds more glory than one can see from earth’s perspective. To see His glory is a call to look up. And so I look. From Heaven’s perspective, I see the King, the Creator, the Savior; I see love Himself. Love is shining down on us.

Meekness is a word that comes to mind. A bit like humility but with a bit more power. Kristen Clark and Bethany Beal see this, too. They say that meekness is “great strength under perfect control.” The King and His star are full of meekness. They present themselves as gentle and humble, yet billions of stars surround the star that shines alone. Not always visible, but always there. The King holds all the power in the world, and all of creation submits to His voice. Sometimes quiet, but always has a testimony.
