Writing is a Gift

Writing is a gift from God. I am blessed to have the mentality to grasp its wonders. It reaches a deep part of my soul, as I am sure it does to others because it reminds me of how we are distinctly made in the image of God. God used His words to speak everything into existence. Words hold power. Our Creator, in all His beautiful glory, is a poet! He graciously gifted us the art of communication. The compilation of words in language is extraordinary. A system so complex can only be orchestrated by God. The word connection comes to mind. God uses writing as a way to reveal Himself. The Bible is His word!

As a gift from God, it is sure to come with much beauty, and I have lived to experience that. Writing has always been a positive activity for me. I love anything that I can piece together and make into art. From writing short stories as a child and practicing essays in school, I have turned my love of Jesus and writing into a blog. I have learned to enjoy all the wisdom and life writing, speaking, and communication can hold, and I wanted to express such awe in a creative space. While my writing is not perfect, I find beauty in showing up before the Lord, observing His goodness in my life, and writing it down. Writing helps me organize the messy thoughts in my head. It acts as therapy sometimes. My blog is called Upon Grace, and inside, you can find a part of who I am and a glimpse at our wonderful Creator. I do not always have an agenda for my writing. Most of the time, I write what comes to my heart from the Lord. This consists of a wide range of writing styles. From reflections, poems, prayers, and daily experiences documented in word form, I have found myself pouring my heart on paper. This blog is not big. It is very small, and that is okay. I use it as a space to show up, branch out, and make art for the Lord. Perhaps God will use this in a way only He knows in the future, but the best thing I can do today is continue to make an appearance with open hands and an open heart.

I must say, writing can hardly be done without first reading. Reading is one of the most encouraging things in my life. It provides me with inspiration and real-life examples, and it opens doors for me to see other people's hearts. It acts as fuel to my writing. Every morning, I journal, read my Bible, and read other supplementary Christian books. Throughout the day, writing consumes a lot of my time, whether in speaking form or jotting something down on paper. It consists of many different shapes and sizes; communication is vital in my daily life! I am thankful for all the wisdom the Lord has given me as a source of writing and expression. I am not creating anything new. I am only discovering what the Lord has already made and recording it.

I have always been thrilled by the thought of writing a book. I have attempted to write a fiction book a couple of years ago. Developing characters and their backstories was truly fun, but every attempt never made it far in development. A little while back, I tried to write a devotional book, but that did not stick either. I am not surprised that these projects never got completed. I am not even sure I ever had the initial motivation to believe they would be finished one day. It felt like an experiment or a way to dip my toes into the water. I am thankful I did taste and see. It stirred me into creating my blog. Far from perfect, it gives me space to get my thoughts out. I do not know how visible it is to the public, but I love writing and will show up anyway, hoping one day someone might see God's Spirit living within me. I am thrilled about all the prompts I will be given in this class. I even enjoy writing this very sentence. Perhaps the season of writing a book is not yet ripe. I hope to glorify God through writing someday, but maybe I need to change my perspective and give Him glory by my mere sentences. Here I am today, Lord, with my fingers ready to type away. It may be small, but even the little things bring you glory.
