The Truest of Love
Updated: Jan 21, 2024
The truest of love is not based on feelings. It is built upon the devotion to sacrificially and selflessly care for the good of others even if your comfort is lost along the way: the other person means more.
Feelings come in waves and are tossed around many a time. This is why we mustn’t base love on how we feel. Feelings are fleeting; love is steadfast.
Feelings are not always true, but love rejoices in the truth, therefore true love can’t be defined by emotions that lose sight of truth so easily (1 Corinthians 13:6).
Like all other areas, the perfect example is Jesus.
Jesus, knowing the pain, but considering us to mean more, He died on the cross for us. Jesus, selflessly and sacrificially, planned to go, determinedly went, and stayed entirely on the cross. He experienced all of it. He did not base His love for humankind on His comfort, He based it on the truth of His character. Despite His suffering, Jesus was steady in His plan, and by His faithfulness, He was absolute in truth.
Jesus shows us true love by His selfless sacrifice which He faithfully and painfully accomplished.
He calls us to love like Him. Love may hurt, but love is always worth it.
